Dal Makhani is a very popular punjabi recipe. Dal Makhani is made with Red Kidney bean, Black Lentils, White Butter and Full fat cream.

  • 1 cup Kidney beans / Rajma
  • 1 Cup whole black lentil / Urad Dal
  • 2 tsp full fat cream
  • 2 tsp butter
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 medium sized onions, chopped
  • 2 tomatoes chopped
  • 1 inch ginger, finely chopped
  • 4-5 garlic, finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp punjabi garam masala
  • 4 cup water
  • salt to taste
  • coriander leaves and green chilly for garnishing
  • Soak Kidney beans and whole black lentil overnight.
  • Add all the ingredients including white butter, dal and kidney beans in a pressure cooker.
  • Add water and pressure cook for at least half and hour.
  • Now open the pressure cooker and let the dal makhani simmer in cooker for another 10-15 minutes without placing the lid. Simmer to get smooth and creamy consistency.
  • Now add cream and allow to simmer for another 5 minutes.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves and green chilli.
  • Serve with Rice or Roti.
